The Book of Eli

If this movie is anything like its preview, it is going to rock. Denzel Washington usually has pretty decent script picking skills so the fact that "Jackie," from That Seventies Show happens to be in the movie doesn't throw me off as it normally would. In fact, I would be willing to bet that this movie is going to show that she is a good actress. "Jackie," was a very believable roll, so why not this as well?

I have not seen this movie yet, but you can be sure I will unless it gets bombed on by www.rottentomatoes.com. There is just something so incredibly entertaining about apocalyptic thrillers. Could it be that it reminds me of my own mortality, or just how much I love on screen violence and big explosions? It may be impossible to tell.

The "book is a weapon," line really got me. How will they spin it? Will Denzel speak the name of God and use it as the weapon of the old testament, or is the knowledge of the path of God the true weapon. Maybe the preview just comes across as religious to suck you in! Either way I cannot wait to watch Denzel kick some butt in the dusty dark and war torn hues of The Book of Eli.

District 9

All the movie critics are raving about the new film District Nine. Ever since Independence Day the masses have been thirsting for a believable alien movie. Apparently we are all about to receive a big dose of alien quenching Gatorade. District Nine is being hailed as one of the best movies of the year.

One thing is bothering me on this District 9 eve. A dilemma that was brought upon by the previews. Before I see this film, I have a grievance to air.

From what we can ascertain, the aliens of District 9 are being held captive. The aliens say they "just want to go home," and are segregated in their very own district. Further more, the very first previews for this movie suggest that more than one alien in one spot is dangerous. I will take a massive conclusion leap and suggest that if these aliens are together they may be able to escape and possibly attempt to take over our world.

Since these aliens came here on the erie floating city looking space ship, that hovers above mankind in the previews, it is obvious said space travelers need a little bit of technology to jet around the cosmos. Now, call me crazy, but that space ship looks like A LOT of work went into it. If the people of earth are worried that these aliens may escape, what better way to keep them from building a new ship, alien space guns, or any other sort of intergalactic technology than keeping the aliens separate and unable to work together. (Gee, I really hope none of these aliens are fans of Iron Man)

This is where it all falls apart for me. If you kidnap an entire cruise ship and strand it on a desert island, I highly doubt the people on board will have the ability, tools and know how to recreate a vessel large enough to hold them all, mechanically propel itself, and that can stay at sea for months. They may be able to make something to float on and hope they catch a good current, but successfully navigating the seas is highly improbable. Part of the success of advanced technology is that things you make, make the things you use. I am pretty sure that wicked space ship wasn't hand made.

So District 9, are all aliens engineers that have completely mastered the aspects of space travel? I really hope they have some sort of telekinesis that grows stronger with each additional alien, because I am pretty sure the alien that flips burgers is not going to be a threat.
